Legal Counsel (Cybersecurity)

What you will do

• Act as the primary legal advisor to Founders and Senior Leadership Team on commercial, corporate, regulatory, and people matters.
• Own and evolve public-facing policies, including Privacy Policy, Terms of Use (including AI provisions), and Cookie Policy.
• Lead complex customer negotiations with regulated buyers in Government, Defence, Education, and Financial Services.
• Manage vendor procurement and procurement contracting cycles with a focus on data protection and AI usage.
• Support international expansion, specifically the launch and operation of a US entity.
• Partner with Data Protection functions on GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, ISO certification, and SOC 2 readiness.

Requirements

• Qualified lawyer with strong in-house experience at a fast-growth international SaaS business.
• Demonstrable experience in ISO certified environments and practical exposure to SOC 2 implementation.
• Track record of leading contracting with regulated buyers (Government, Defence, etc.), including complex DPAs and security schedules.
• Strong grounding in international privacy laws (GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA/CPRA).
• Hands-on experience supporting operations across US, EU, UK, and APAC.
• AI-native approach: active use of tools like Claude for drafting, reviewing, and summarizing legal work.

Nice to have

• Background in cybersecurity, developer tools, or edtech.
• Experience with public sector tendering or defence contracting.
• Familiarity with AI-specific regulations (e.g., EU AI Act).
• Prior experience as an early legal hire at a scaling business.
