What you will do

• Lead the design and implementation of performance improvements for the incremental view maintenance engine, including multi-join incrementalization and window functions.
• Define the roadmap for the incremental view maintenance engine, prioritizing scalability and correctness milestones.
• Collaborate across teams to co-design architecture improvements that benefit incremental pipelines.
• Mentor engineers and lead design reviews to raise the technical bar for the team.
• Contribute to research and publications for top-tier database conferences such as SIGMOD and VLDB.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience building and optimizing large-scale data systems.
• Deep expertise in query optimization, incremental/stream processing, or materialized view maintenance.
• Strong computer science fundamentals in algorithms, data structures, and distributed systems design.
• Proficiency in C++ or Java with experience in systems-level performance analysis (profiling, benchmarking).
• Experience operating multi-tenant SaaS systems at cloud scale with petabyte-scale data.
• Must be based in or able to work from Bellevue, WA

Nice to have

• Experience with major analytical DBMS such as BigQuery, Redshift, Databricks, or Oracle.
• Familiarity with stream processing algorithms and CDC pipelines.
• Experience with data lake architectures (Iceberg, Delta) or the data engineering ecosystem (dbt, Airflow).
• Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Computer Science focusing on database systems.
