Medium Voltage Test Engineer

hirify.global is a startup developing scalable power electronics hardware, including converters, inverters, and rectifiers for renewables, energy storage, and grid-connected loads.

What you will do

• Design, build, and operate medium-voltage test benches with high-voltage power supplies, measurement dividers, partial discharge detection, protective earthing, and safety interlocks.
• Develop and document fixtures for cable assemblies, busbars, insulation specimens, and high-voltage subcomponents.
• Execute AC/DC withstand, impulse, insulation resistance, polarization index, dielectric loss, partial discharge, accelerated aging, and environmental stress tests.
• Analyze degradation trends including capacitance drift, tan δ evolution, partial discharge behavior, and breakdown statistics.
• Create structured data workflows, visualizations, failure-mode documentation, and root-cause analyses.
• Partner with design and materials engineering to convert test findings into corrective actions and design improvements.

Requirements

• Pursuing a BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or Materials Science.
• Coursework or demonstrated independent study in electromagnetics, dielectrics, or high-voltage engineering.
• Technical interest in high-voltage physics, insulation behavior, and failure mechanisms.
• Strong debugging skills, attention to detail, and a safety-conscious approach to medium-voltage laboratory work.
• Experience or familiarity with partial discharge theory, dielectric spectroscopy, high-voltage laboratory techniques, and IEC or IEEE dielectric testing standards.
• Experience with data analysis and visualization in Python or MATLAB.

Nice to have

• Prior laboratory research in materials characterization, high-voltage systems, or power electronics.
• Familiarity with IEC 60243, IEC 60270, or similar dielectric testing standards.
