TL;DR

Senior Electrical Engineer (Defense): Designing, building, and maintaining Special Test Equipment (STE), Ground Support Equipment (GSE), and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) infrastructure for advanced sensor and avionics systems with an accent on electrical architecture and automated test racks. Focus on integrating commercial instrumentation, developing complex wiring/schematics, and ensuring hardware-software system validation.

Location: On-site in El Segundo, CA

Salary: $130k - $210k

What you will do

  • Design, develop, and sustain automated STE/GSE systems for sensor, avionics, and embedded hardware platforms.
  • Architect test racks, interface test adapters (ITAs), cable assemblies, and subsystem interconnects.
  • Integrate and troubleshoot commercial test equipment including oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and VNAs.
  • Define electrical architectures for power distribution, grounding, signal conditioning, and instrumentation.
  • Develop electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and rack layouts using ECAD tools.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to develop automated verification and validation solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related STEM discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience designing electrical test systems or automated test equipment (ATE).
  • Experience with modular test platforms such as PXIe, LXI, or VXI.
  • Proficiency integrating commercial test equipment via SCPI, Ethernet, Serial, USB, or GPIB.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance.
  • Strong hands-on laboratory and hardware integration experience.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience supporting RF/radar or EO/IR sensor integration and test.
  • Familiarity with Python-based test automation and instrumentation control.
  • Experience using ECAD tools like Altium Designer, Zuken, or Mentor Graphics.
  • Knowledge of military or aerospace standards and environmental test practices.
