What you will do

• Own the end-to-end mechanical architecture of ion beam deposition and etch systems, including vacuum vessels and robotics interfaces.
• Lead structural and thermal FEA, heat transfer modeling, and fluid dynamics simulations to validate concepts.
• Drive prototype development from design through test using DOE plans and root-cause analysis.
• Conduct design reviews to present rationale and risk assessments to cross-functional peers and senior leadership.
• Collaborate with supply chain and manufacturing for vendor qualification and factory-floor troubleshooting.
• Mentor junior engineers and define mechanical design specifications based on customer requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering (8+ years exp) or Master's (6+ years exp) in capital equipment or vacuum systems.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD (SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo) and 2D drafting (AutoCAD).
• Proven experience in structural and thermal FEA for production-bound hardware.
• Hands-on experience building and troubleshooting prototype hardware in lab or factory environments.
• Must be based in or able to work onsite in Plainview, NY, USA.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with ion beam technology, vacuum physics, or thin-film deposition processes.
• Knowledge of automation, robotics, industrial controls, and motor selection.
• Experience with PLM systems (SAP) and formal engineering change order (ECO) workflows.
• Working knowledge of SEMI safety standards (S2, S8).
