Mechanical Engineer

TL;DR

Mechanical Engineer (Thermal Management): Design, develop, test, and improve mechanical components and systems for chiller products with an accent on 3D CAD modeling, engineering calculations, and manufacturability. Focus on performing FEA simulations, prototyping hardware, collaborating with suppliers, and troubleshooting production issues in a fast-paced startup environment.

Location: Hybrid in Knoxville, TN area or remote from West Michigan

What you will do

• Design mechanical components, assemblies, and systems using 3D CAD tools like SolidWorks, Creo, or NX, managed in PLM/PDM systems.
• Create and review 2D drawings with accurate BOMs, tolerances, and manufacturability considerations.
• Perform engineering calculations, DFMEA, FEA, and simulations to validate designs for safety and performance.
• Prototype, test hardware, execute test plans, analyze data, and iterate designs.
• Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturing for production ramp-up, cost reduction, and process development.
• Troubleshoot issues, manage ECRs/ECOs, ensure regulatory compliance, and support project planning and reviews.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
• 5+ years designing, launching, and supporting products in manufacturing, interfacing with production systems
• Proficient with SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD
• Experience with material resource planning, ISO quality systems

Nice to have

• Knowledge of PLM/PDM systems (3DExperience, SW PDM, Windchill)
• Hands-on prototyping and testing
• Understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, plumbing, hydraulics, refrigeration thermodynamics
• Familiarity with industrial electrical systems, Lean principles, UL certification, ISO 9000
