Engineering Project Specialist

TL;DR

Engineering Project Specialist (Hardware NPI): Supporting prototype distribution operations and NPI execution with an accent on inventory control, chain-of-custody, and build coordination. Focus on developing processes, tools, and cadences for prototype shipping, global logistics, and engineering build readiness across prototype, EVT, DVT phases.

Location: On-site - San Francisco, California. San Francisco in-office work is required. Up to 20% global travel.

Salary: $151,000 - $178,000 (Region 1)

What You’ll Do

• Coordinate prototype operations including shipping, receiving, storage, inventory management, distribution, and disposition.
• Maintain chain-of-custody controls for secure prototype handling and traceability across internal and external partners.
• Support global prototype movement with logistics providers and stakeholders.
• Develop trackers, dashboards, and tools for prototype visibility and NPI build execution.
• Coordinate build readiness, material prep, issue tracking, and action closure with engineering teams and vendors.
• Identify process gaps, risks, and blockers to drive continuous improvement.

Requirements

• 3+ years in hardware project support, prototype operations, NPI coordination, logistics, or supply chain.
• Experience with operational workflows in hardware development or NPI environments.
• Strong project coordination across cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
• Prototype shipping, inventory control, asset tracking, or chain-of-custody experience.
• Proficiency in Google Workspace, Excel/Google Sheets for building workbooks and tools.
• Comfort with AI tools for workflow improvements.

Nice to Have

• Work with contract manufacturers or logistics vendors.
• Familiarity with privacy/security for pre-release hardware.
• Building dashboards or scalable systems for assets/builds.
• Supporting new roles or scaling processes.
• Project tools like Jira, Confluence, Smartsheet.
