Automation Software Engineer

TL;DR

Automation Software Engineer (PLC/Siemens): Automation engineering of crane modernization projects using Siemens Step 7, Tia Portal and legacy tools with an accent on PLC programming, field bus systems and site commissioning. Focus on providing global engineering support, solving complex technical issues and documenting work in PLM systems.

Location: Hybrid work model – 2 days per week at Hyvinkää office or nearby locations in Finland, other days remote. Site visits require ability to work at heights and travel globally 50-100 days per year.

What you will do

• Perform automation engineering for crane modernization projects using Siemens Step 7, Tia Portal and legacy tools.
• Provide engineering support to electrical, mechanical engineers and frontline specialists worldwide.
• Conduct automation site commissioning work in modernization projects.
• Document engineering work in hirify.global PLM systems.

Requirements

• 3+ years PLC software development experience in platforms with IEC-61131 programming languages and SCL
• Fluency in English and Finnish
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in automation, software engineering, computer science or electronics.
• Experience with Siemens Step 7, Tia Portal, field bus systems (Profibus, Profinet), C/C++ and SQL databases valued.
• Experience in machine industry automation, including inverter and PLC controls preferred.
• Strong logic problem-solving, systematic approach and communication skills under pressure.
• Team player mentality with practical site installation and commissioning experience appreciated.

Nice to have

• Experience in automation engineering for cranes or similar applications.
