Director, AI Engineering (Healthcare)

TL;DR

Director, AI Engineering (Healthcare): Lead the strategy, development, and delivery of AI/ML capabilities across the organization with an accent on building and scaling high-performing teams, end-to-end ML/LLM systems, and MLOps practices. Focus on rapid prototyping, production deployment, architecture decisions, and aligning AI initiatives with product, clinical, and business objectives.

Location: Hybrid - at least 3 days/week in one of our offices: Chicago/Evanston, Dallas TX, New York, or Washington DC

What you will do

• Define and execute the AI engineering strategy and technical roadmap aligned with product, clinical, and business priorities.
• Build, lead, and scale a high-performing AI engineering team through hiring, mentoring, and fostering technical excellence.
• Drive rapid AI proof-of-concept development from prototypes to production-grade systems on aggressive timelines.
• Own end-to-end lifecycle of ML/LLM systems including research, deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
• Establish MLOps practices: experiment tracking, CI/CD, automated testing, drift detection, and scalable Azure infrastructure.
• Partner cross-functionally to identify AI opportunities, lead architecture, set KPIs, champion responsible AI, and represent to executives.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent; Master’s preferred
• 10+ years in software engineering/ML, 4+ years leading ML/AI teams
• Proven track record shipping production ML/LLM systems at scale end-to-end
• Deep expertise in ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn), LLM tech (prompt engineering, RAG, embeddings, fine-tuning, agents), MLOps
• Strong experience with Azure ML, Databricks, Azure DevOps, big data (Spark, Delta Lake), streaming
• Leadership in hiring, cross-functional influence, strategic thinking, regulated environments (healthcare preferred)
• Outstanding communication for technical and executive audiences
