What you will do

• Design and maintain model policies governing chemical and biological risk, defining safe handling of dual-use scenarios.
• Develop structured taxonomies of risk to inform model training data, evaluation benchmarks, and monitoring systems.
• Translate biosecurity and chemical security expertise into actionable model behavior in collaboration with research and engineering teams.
• Identify emerging risk vectors where frontier AI could lower barriers to harmful activity and develop mitigation strategies.
• Engage with internal and external subject-matter experts in biosecurity, biodefense, and chemical safety.

Requirements

• Strong domain expertise in chemistry, biology, biosecurity, or related fields.
• Experience researching or working with LLMs, machine learning, AI governance, or technology policy.
• Experience designing, refining, or enforcing policies for complex systems in high-stakes technical domains.
• Ability to navigate ambiguous problem spaces and balance risk reduction with scientific openness.
• Experience at the intersection of science, policy, and emerging technology.
• Must be based in or able to relocate to San Francisco, USA.
