TL;DR

Senior Design Manager (AI): Leading and developing a team of product designers to build an AI-native social platform with an accent on design quality, strategic direction, and scaling a lean design culture. Focus on integrating AI tools into the design workflow, coaching designers, and partnering with engineering and product leadership to shape the roadmap.

Location: Hybrid (San Francisco), must be in person Tuesdays and Thursdays

Salary: $161,250 – $215,000

What you will do

  • Lead and develop a team of 5-8 product designers, setting a high craft bar and providing actionable feedback.
  • Own the design quality and strategic direction for your product area, making strong creative calls.
  • Partner with product and engineering leadership to shape roadmap decisions upstream.
  • Build structures, rituals, and standards to make the design team more consistent and efficient.
  • Hire and develop strong design talent to raise the overall density of the team.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of product design experience.
  • 3+ years of experience managing and developing designers in a professional setting.
  • Experience working in both large, structured design organizations and smaller, resource-constrained environments.
  • Strong design craft with a portfolio demonstrating the ability to evaluate quality with specificity.
  • Track record of coaching individuals and helping them grow into larger scopes.
  • Ability to operate as a cross-functional partner at the leadership level.

Nice to have

  • AI-native workflow or rapid adoption of AI tools in your professional process.
  • Experience importing scalable design operations into lean environments.
