TL;DR
Systems Engineer: Design, implement, and sustain enterprise systems in a secure DoD environment with an accent on system administration, infrastructure optimization, and security compliance. Focus on troubleshooting complex issues, automating processes, and integrating new technologies for mission-critical operations.
Location: Based in Frederick, MD (Fort Detrick); eligible for up to 2 days telework per week, contingent on customer requirements, project needs, and security constraints

What you will do
- Design, implement, and deploy system and infrastructure solutions meeting customer and mission requirements.
- Collaborate with infrastructure, networking, development, QA, and cyber security teams for integration and issue resolution.
- Perform hands-on system administration, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis in secure environments.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, including configurations, diagrams, and procedures for audits and accreditation.
- Participate in change control, configuration management, and incident response processes.
- Support continuous improvement through automation, standardization, and best practices.
Requirements
- Experience with Microsoft Copilot or approved equivalent AI solution
- Active Secret security clearance with ability to obtain and maintain TS/SCI; U.S. citizen only
- DoD 8140/8570 IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+ CE) or obtain within 60 days
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (experience may substitute)
- 3–5 years in systems engineering, administration, infrastructure, or software development
- Working knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, subnetting; familiarity with Linux (Red Hat preferred), containers (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift), scripting (Bash, Python, Ansible)
- Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and communication skills with documentation emphasis
Nice to have
- RHCSA or RHCE certification
- Experience with automation/IaC (Ansible, Python, Terraform); cloud (AWS, Azure)
- Familiarity with DISA STIGs and DoD security standards
- Prior DoD or federal customer support
