Billing Specialist (RCM)

Location: Remote, available only in AL, AR, AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, ID, IL, IN, IA, MO, NC, NE, NY, OH, PA, SC, TN, TX, UT, and VA

What you will do

• Submit clean primary and secondary claims electronically and manage assigned client account billing scrubs.
• Resolve clearinghouse rejections, correct billing errors, and handle rebilling projects related to new plans, policy changes, and updated information.
• Operate billing platforms such as Azalea, Tebra, Central Reach, and the Rethink Integrated Billing Module.
• Review documentation and research payer rules to ensure claims meet insurance requirements.
• Maintain account spreadsheets, provider rosters, billing reference materials, and payer policy information.
• Report client billing status and issues while meeting internal benchmarks for clean claims, first-pass rate, unbilled claims, rejections, secondary claims, and denials.

Requirements

• 1–2 years of billing experience in speech, occupational, or ABA therapy.
• Strong knowledge of CPT coding and billing rules for major health insurance companies.
• Direct experience working with insurers such as Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, and Magellan.
• Proficiency with billing software and clearinghouse systems, including Azalea, Kareo, Waystar, TriZetto, and Central Reach.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree preferred.

Nice to have

• Experience with ABA, speech, occupational therapy, and mental health billing.
• Experience working in an office setting for at least 1–2 years.
• At least one year of experience billing major commercial insurers and state Medicaid programs.
• Experience using insurance company websites and portals.
