What you will do

• Design and optimize lexical, vector, and hybrid retrieval systems at scale, including RAG pipelines with prompt design and orchestration.
• Drive experimentation with embeddings, re-ranking, and retrieval architectures to improve relevance and user outcomes.
• Define evaluation strategies and frameworks for IR (NDCG, recall) and GenAI (grounding, faithfulness, hallucination detection).
• Develop evaluation datasets, conduct A/B testing with statistical rigor, and contribute to responsible AI practices.
• Apply NLP, embeddings, and generative AI techniques; integrate emerging technologies and domain ontologies into production systems.
• Collaborate with product, engineering, and domain experts to deliver scalable solutions from problem definition to deployment.

Requirements

• Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning, or related field (or equivalent experience)
• 3–5+ years in data science, ML, or applied NLP
• Strong experience with search/retrieval systems (lexical, vector, hybrid), RAG pipelines, and ML/IR/GenAI evaluation
• Advanced Python; modern ML/NLP frameworks (PyTorch, Hugging Face, LangChain, LangGraph, Haystack)
• Experience with Databricks or distributed data/ML platforms; experimentation design and statistical analysis

Nice to have

• PhD preferred
• Work with large-scale scientific/biomedical datasets
• Familiarity with scientific ontologies (MeSH, UMLS), production ML/MLOps, data visualization tools
• Human-in-the-loop evaluation; publications in IR/NLP/GenAI
