Location: Based in Springfield, MO; also serve employees in all Abacus! physical locations and those working remotely.

What you will do

  • Analyze IRS and state tax notices, prepare accurate responses, and determine required actions for resolution.
  • Represent clients in correspondence and negotiations with IRS and state authorities to resolve penalties, notices, and audits.
  • Prepare audit defense files by collecting documentation and coaching clients on audit expectations and strategies.
  • Conduct technical tax research to develop defensible, compliant responses and identify resolution opportunities.
  • Identify and pursue penalty abatements, tax relief programs, and settlement options.
  • Maintain detailed records of notice responses, resolutions, and client communications; collaborate with internal departments to support integrated strategies.

Requirements

  • Detail-oriented experience in audit defense and resolving IRS and state tax notices.
  • Ability to deliver proactive, compliant solutions that reduce clients’ tax burdens.
  • Strong client advocacy skills as the primary point of contact with tax authorities.
  • Comfort using tax software and digital tools to manage client cases efficiently.
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; Enrolled Agent preferred.
