Staff Archaeologist (Cultural Resources): Conducting and overseeing archaeological field investigations, surveys, and site documentation with an accent on pedestrian walkovers, shovel testing, and compliance with federal and state regulations. Focus on leading field crews, authoring detailed reports, and ensuring quality control in digital recordation using ArcGIS and Trimble.

Location: Remote (USA). Must be authorized to work in the US (E-Verify). Knowledge of North Dakota and surrounding states regulations required.

Salary: $72,100–$94,800 per year (USA)

What you will do

  • Complete initial project reviews, assist or lead proposals.
  • Perform pedestrian walkover surveys, controlled surface surveys, and shovel testing, often solo.
  • Direct site documentation, maintain field records, and determine survey coverage.
  • Ensure quality digital recordation using Trimble R1, iPad, ArcGIS, and AGO.
  • Author reports, agency letters, and Section 106 forms.
  • Oversee field crew safety and coordinate with project managers and clients.

Requirements

  • Secretary of the Interior-qualified in Archaeology with graduate degree in archaeology, anthropology, or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years experience leading pedestrian surveys and evaluative site testing.
  • Knowledge of federal and state cultural resource guidelines, especially North Dakota and surrounding states.
  • Authorized to work in the US (E-Verify).
  • Proficiency in ArcGIS, AGO, digital data collection, and report writing.
  • Experience leading field crews and strong communication skills.
