Director of Legal (E-commerce)

TL;DR

Director of Legal (E-commerce): Own legal function across intellectual property, commercial contracts, marketing compliance, and corporate matters with an accent on global IP portfolio management, contract lifecycle, and strategic business partnering. Focus on building in-house legal capabilities, enforcing counterfeit strategies, managing outside counsel, and advising CEO on legal risks and deal structures.

Location: Hybrid schedule with three in-office days (Monday–Wednesday) in Norwalk, CT

What you will do

• Own global trademark and patent portfolios: manage searches, filings, maintenance, enforcement, prosecution across US and international channels.
• Lead counterfeit and knockoff enforcement as retail expands.
• Manage full contract lifecycle for retailer agreements, vendor MSAs, suppliers using Legisway.
• Build contract standards/templates to reduce outside counsel reliance.
• Serve as primary manager for outside counsel: scope work, control fees, roadmap internal capabilities.
• Handle corporate matters, insurance portfolio, board support; build in-house legal function and partner strategically with CEO and leaders.

Requirements

• J.D. degree required
• 7–10+ years legal experience, majority in-house at consumer products, e-commerce, or retail company
• Demonstrated trademark/patent portfolio management with IP counsel
• Strong commercial contracts: drafting, redlining, negotiating independently
• Experience as trusted business partner to senior leadership
• Excellent communication to translate legal into business guidance; highly organized, proactive in fast-paced environment

Nice to have

• Familiarity with FTC marketing claims, Amazon seller compliance, multi-channel retail
• Experience with legal operations systems (Legisway, ContractPodAi)
