TL;DR

Environmental Permitting Specialist (Power Sector): Supporting permitting and environmental compliance for solar, wind, battery storage, and transmission projects with an accent on federal regulations, NEPA processes, and agency coordination. Location: Can be based anywhere in the United States (remote, in-office, or hybrid work arrangement)

Salary: $94,800–$127,800 per year

What you will do

  • Serve as Permitting Specialist or Task Lead for power sector projects including solar, wind, battery storage, and transmission.
  • Analyze environmental impacts and develop project-specific avoidance and mitigation strategies.
  • Coordinate biological and cultural field surveys, subcontractor management, scheduling, and reporting.
  • Research and summarize local, state, and federal laws for permitting support.
  • Draft permit applications, support plans, and environmental review documents like EAW, EA, EIS.
  • Participate in proposals, project meetings, client/agency interactions, and relationship building.

Requirements

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. (E-Verify)
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, geography, land use planning, biology, archaeology, geology, political science, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience with permitting processes through USACE, USFWS, federal land agencies, SHPO, state siting authorities, preferably in Great Plains/Upper Midwest power projects.
  • Strong oral communication, technical writing, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Willing to travel domestically 0-20% as needed

Nice to have

  • Advanced degrees or knowledge in environmental law, land use planning, anthropology/archaeology, hydrology, biology, or wetland ecology.
  • Interest in professional development toward project management.
  • Technical editing experience.
