Associate Principal Engineer (Renewable Studies): Conducting electrical studies for renewable facilities that encompass system aspects in support of solar and substation design teams with an accent on short circuit, reactive power/load flow, arc flash, dynamic, transient, and harmonic analyses. Focus on performing QA/QC reviews, establishing study templates and best practices, and providing regulatory compliance services across project phases.
Location: Fully remote or in-office (Lakewood, CO). Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
Salary: $100,000 - $175,000 / year

What you will do
- Act as subject matter expert on complex projects within the System Studies department, working closely with Technical Directors and Vice President.
- Conduct electrical studies including short circuit, reactive power/load flow, arc flash, dynamic, transient, harmonic, compliance, ampacity, and grounding for renewable facilities.
- Perform review and QA/QC for electrical studies supporting design teams.
- Establish study templates, methodologies, and best practices; serve as SME for study software troubleshooting.
- Provide regulatory compliance services from conceptual design through testing and commissioning.
- Assist with client communication, proposals, cost estimates, and occasional field testing and commissioning.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology (electric power option preferred).
- 7+ years of relevant engineering or field experience.
- FE required, PE preferred.
- Proficiency in power system modeling software: Steady State (PowerFactory, ETAP, SKM Power Tools, etc.), System Protection & Arc Flash (CAPE, ETAP, etc.), Grounding (CDEGS), Interconnection & Dynamic (PSSe, PSLF), Cable Ampacity (Cymcap), Transient (PSCAD).
- Currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
- Effective written and oral communication skills; good interpersonal skills.
Nice to have
- Experience with detailed design of electrical power systems (one-line diagrams, relaying schematics, SCADA, grounding, specifications).
