Senior Frontend React Developer (React)

TL;DR

Senior Frontend React Developer (React/Next.js/TypeScript): Building and delivering frontend features for large national public service systems with an accent on architecture, reusable components, and accessibility (WCAG 2.2 AA). Focus on shaping frontend standards, optimizing performance, and mentoring engineers within secure, operationally sensitive environments.

Location: Hybrid (50% office attendance). Must be within reasonable commuting distance of an NEC SWS office. Pre-existing right to work and travel within the EU is required. SC eligibility is essential.

What you will do

• Build and deliver end-to-end frontend features using React, Next.js, and TypeScript.
• Shape frontend architecture, implementation patterns, and engineering standards.
• Design and evolve reusable UI components and shared UI approaches.
• Ensure accessibility is integrated from the start, adhering to WCAG 2.2 AA standards.
• Guide testing strategies across unit, integration, and end-to-end levels.
• Mentor engineers through peer reviews and technical guidance.

Requirements

• Deep professional experience building modern frontends in production with React and Next.js.
• Strong TypeScript skills for building scalable and maintainable codebases.
• Solid understanding of frontend architecture, state management, and performance optimization.
• Experience building inclusive digital services with strong accessibility awareness.
• Eligible to obtain Security Check (SC) clearance (satisfying residency and vetting requirements).
• Pre-existing right to work and travel within the EU.

Nice to have

• Experience with GOV.UK Design System and Government Service Standard.
• Proficiency with Storybook or similar UI documentation tooling.
• Knowledge of frontend security fundamentals (XSS, CSRF).
• Cloud-based delivery experience on AWS or Azure.
• Experience in secure, regulated, or operationally sensitive environments.
