TL;DR
Controls Engineer (Automotive Manufacturing): Supporting live Paint Shop manufacturing operations and production equipment with an accent on PLC troubleshooting and system stabilization. Focus on diagnosing conveyance systems, optimizing PID-controlled processes, and executing controls projects during shutdowns.
Location: Onsite in Flint, Michigan. This role is not eligible for relocation benefits.

What you will do
- Provide hands-on troubleshooting for PLC, drive, and network-based systems during off-shift hours.
- Diagnose and resolve issues on automotive conveyance systems such as skid, skillet, and power-and-free.
- Support paint shop process equipment, including ovens, tanks, fans, pumps, and air systems.
- Maintain and modify Siemens HMIs via TIA Portal and stabilize PID-controlled loops for temperature and pressure.
- Perform root-cause analysis on recurring equipment failures to implement permanent corrective actions.
- Execute controls projects during planned shutdowns, downtimes, and model launch activities.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience supporting automated manufacturing systems in an automotive assembly environment.
- Advanced proficiency in programming and troubleshooting Rockwell/Allen-Bradley ControlLogix or GuardLogix PLCs.
- Experience with Rockwell PowerFlex VFDs, motor starters, and industrial networks (DeviceNet, EtherNet/IP).
- Ability to read, interpret, and modify electrical schematics and controls documentation.
- Must be able to work on a rotating/flexible shift, including overtime and weekends.
- Must not require immigration sponsorship now or in the future.
Nice to have
- 5+ years of automotive experience, particularly in Paint Shop environments.
- Bachelorβs degree in an engineering discipline.
- Experience with Fanuc robots or vision systems such as Cognex, VMT, or Keyence.
- Working knowledge of GM controls standards or EPLAN certification.
