Senior Software Engineer

TL;DR

Senior Software Engineer (Python/Elixir/Golang): Lead the design, development, and delivery of complex features and projects within an AI-native engineering workflow powering the Hyperlift Stars Platform with an accent on scalable data services, backend microservices, APIs, and database schemas. Focus on setting technical direction, applying AI tools for reliability and efficiency, and architecting distributed event-driven systems.

Location: Remote (USA) with hybrid working mode; gather in US hub offices (Chicago, IL; Boston, MA; South Bend, IN) three days a week (Tue, Wed, Thu) if near a hub.

Salary: $100,000–$130,000 base + discretionary bonus

What you will do

• Lead systems analysis, architectural design, technology selection, and development of complex features and core platform components.
• Architect scalable data services, pipelines, database schemas (PostgreSQL), backend microservices, and APIs with Product Managers and engineering leadership.
• Set expectations for AI-native engineering practices, ensuring AI tools improve reliability, efficiency, and user value across the software lifecycle.
• Implement backend services in Python, Elixir, or Golang; lead code reviews, produce documentation, and prepare production releases.
• Troubleshoot complex issues in distributed event-driven systems using observability tools; participate in full Agile lifecycle.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
• Strong design/architectural skills with experience owning complex systems; expertise in Python (Elixir/Golang a plus)
• Strong knowledge of relational databases (PostgreSQL), REST APIs, event-driven architecture, data modeling, and query optimization
• Experience with distributed systems, microservices, cloud infrastructure (Azure/AWS), IaC (Terraform/CloudFormation), DevOps (GitLab CI/CD), containers (Kubernetes/Docker)
• Ability to debug/optimize backend performance, apply AI tools judiciously, work independently/collaboratively, and communicate effectively
• Demonstrated ability to architect/deliver scalable systems, mentor peers, lead design discussions under shifting priorities
