Layout Environment Technical Director (VFX)

TL;DR

Layout Environment Technical Director (VFX): Produce layouts for shots and sequences in high-end feature film projects, resolving previs, mocap, matchmove, and plate photography into consistent world space with an accent on camera positioning, scene blocking, and CG environment creation from provided assets. Focus on building shot continuity, publishing cameras for downstream departments, and collaborating closely with Production, Animation, FX, and Lighting teams.

Onsite at hirify.global’s Wellington hub. Ideally based in Vancouver or open to relocating, eligible to work in Canada. Location: Vancouver, Canada.

$37–$56 CAD per hour, based on a 40-hour work week (hours may vary).

What you will do

• Build and maintain shot and sequence continuity
• Create and publish cameras for Animation and Lighting
• Block scenes using existing assets and low poly geometry
• Support shot setup with the right assets, dressing, and scene structure
• Collaborate closely with Production, Animation, FX, and Lighting teams

Requirements

• At least 3 years Layout experience in Visual Effects on feature films
• Production experience with procedural environment building
• Generalist Maya skills with camera, modelling, animation, and rendering
• Comprehension of photographic composition and understanding of camera lenses
• Ability to match photographic reference of environments with minimal assets
• Strong technical, communication, and organisational skills
• Solid understanding of matchmove concepts

Nice to have

• Knowledge of Nuke, Katana, and scripting abilities in Python
