Lead Substation Commissioning Technician (Southeast)

Lead Substation Commissioning Technician (Southeast): Verification that Transmission Substation Equipment is commissioned in compliance with project contracts and specifications, with an accent on protection systems, relay calibration, and NERC CIP security. Focus on executing commissioning plans, thorough system walkdowns, reviewing test results, and providing post-commissioning documentation reviews.

Location: Domiciled ideally in the SE region (FL, GA, SC, NC) with travel to support projects; 10 days on / 4 days off schedule when traveling; relocation eligible.

What you will do

• Prepare and maintain detailed commissioning schedules and proactively plan activities and milestones.
• Execute commissioning ensuring compliance with specifications, contracts, and supplier requirements for efficient client turnover.
• Perform thorough system walkdowns to establish completion status and identify outstanding items.
• Oversee protection system design, settings, installation, testing, and commissioning as SME; review and approve relay test results and AC acceptance tests.
• Provide post-commissioning reviews of documentation, checklists, and test reports within two weeks.
• Validate SWMS inventory and configurations; adhere to safety and quality standards.

Requirements

• Qualified SME in Protection System design, settings/configurations, installation, testing, commissioning, and/or NERC CIP ESP/Security Zone commissioning.
• OSHA 10 Hour Training.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds, work in confined spaces, extreme temperatures, high voltage substations, and up to 12-hour shifts.
• Independent resource not involved in project construction.
• Pre-employment onboarding: background check, drug screen, motor vehicle records.

Nice to have

• NICET or NETA Certification.
• 8+ years of relevant startup experience.
• Duke Energy system certified or previous experience.
