Electrical Commissioning Lead

TL;DR

Electrical Commissioning Lead (AI Data Centers): Lead energization, commissioning, and handover of critical electrical systems for high-performance AI supercomputing infrastructure with an accent on medium/low voltage power distribution, backup power, and protection systems. Focus on directing point-to-point verification, functional testing, troubleshooting complex issues, and integrated systems testing in hyperscale environments.

Location: Onsite in Memphis, TN with extensive travel to hirify.global data center construction sites across the United States. Must be willing to travel extensively, work extended hours, nights, and weekends during commissioning phases, and remain onsite for extended periods.

What you will do

• Lead full electrical commissioning for power distribution, switchgear, transformers, UPS, generators, PDUs, busway, ATS, and controls in hyperscale data centers.
• Direct point-to-point verification, functional testing, relay calibration, protective coordination, system integration, and integrated systems testing.
• Oversee troubleshooting of electrical, controls, and power quality issues during pre-commissioning, commissioning, and startup.
• Develop and approve commissioning procedures, scripts, checklists, and documentation per NETA standards and hirify.global requirements.
• Coordinate with EPC contractors, OEM vendors, utilities, and hirify.global engineers for safe energization, startup, and validation.
• Mentor technicians, manage schedules and resources, maintain documentation, and deliver training to operations teams.

Requirements

• 7+ years hands-on electrical commissioning in data centers or mission-critical environments, 3+ years in lead/supervisory role.
• Deep expertise in data center electrical infrastructure up to 480V (medium voltage preferred): switchgear, UPS, generators, PDUs, busway, protective relaying.
• Knowledge of commissioning test equipment (meggers, relay test sets, power quality analyzers, etc.).
• Familiarity with NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE, NETA, ANSI, UL; ability to read/interpret electrical drawings and schematics.
• Leadership coordinating multi-discipline teams and contractors; current OSHA 30 certification.
• Willingness to travel extensively across US sites, work in industrial environments, climb ladders, lift 50 lbs, wear PPE; valid driver’s license.

Nice to have

• Leadership on hyperscale (100+ MW) data center projects.
• NETA Level III+ certification, Journeyman Electrician, NICET.
• Experience with redundant power systems, paralleling switchgear, PLC/SCADA troubleshooting.
• Proficiency with CxPro, Procore, PlanGrid; technical degree in Electrical Engineering Technology.
• Arc flash studies, short circuit coordination, ETAP/SKM modeling.
