What you will do

• Design and evolve high-throughput data pipelines to transform large volumes of unstructured content into enriched datasets.
• Drive technical direction and architectural decisions for ingestion systems to ensure scalability and maintainability.
• Improve data quality and enrichment workflows to support downstream systems such as Search and Data Science.
• Build and operate distributed, event-driven systems and streaming pipelines with strong observability and fault tolerance.
• Partner cross-functionally with Product, Data Science, Search, and Platform teams to deliver customer-facing features.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews and technical guidance to raise the overall engineering bar.

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Experience designing and operating distributed systems, data pipelines, or event-driven architectures at scale.
• Strong proficiency in Python or a similar backend programming language.
• Experience with streaming technologies (Kafka, Kinesis) and service communication (gRPC, Protocol Buffers).
• Expertise with relational or search databases such as MySQL, Postgres, Elasticsearch, or OpenSearch.
• Must be based in Bulgaria, the United Kingdom, or Ireland.

Nice to have

• Experience optimizing content ingestion, ETL/ELT, or data enrichment pipelines.
• Experience processing multi-terabyte datasets or high-volume event streams.
• Interest in journalism, media, or supporting technologies for these industries.
