College Intern (Lab IT)

TL;DR

College Intern (Lab IT): Managing and inventorying lab IT assets and providing day-to-day technical support for research labs with an accent on hardware asset management and OS troubleshooting. Focus on integrating lab equipment into IT infrastructure and resolving technical incidents to support disease research.

Location: Required on-site position in Cambridge, MA, and periodically in Burlington, MA

Salary: $18.00/hr - $22.67/hr

What you will do

• Lead the execution and completion of a comprehensive inventory of lab IT assets and maintain accurate logs.
• Perform initial triage and resolution for reported Lab IT incidents.
• Examine, document, and improve IT processes and procedures within research labs.
• Aid in the integration of lab equipment into existing Broad IT infrastructure and services.
• Install and support research applications used for the acquisition and analysis of raw research data.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a degree program in a technical discipline.
• Basic network troubleshooting skills (ping, traceroute, ipconfig).
• Familiarity with working on the command line.
• Strong OS operation and troubleshooting experience with Windows and Linux.
• Previous customer service experience and a team-player mentality.
• Ability to work on-site in Cambridge and Burlington, MA, and lift up to 50 lbs.

Nice to have

• Experience writing and managing technical documentation.
• Basic cloud experience, preferably with GCP (Buckets, distributed computing).
• Interest in lab systems (e.g., Illumina, NovaSeq, Hamilton) and research tools (e.g., Jupyter Notebooks, Graphpad, Prism).
