What you will do

• Define and own the vision and strategy for perception model training and evaluation datasets.
• Design frameworks to estimate data needs based on scaling laws and model performance.
• Refine evaluation strategies to ensure statistical power and de-risk new deployments.
• Collaborate with ML researchers and labeling teams to create actionable labeling plans.
• Identify structural gaps and biases in existing data sources to improve utilization.
• Establish data-driven best practices and eventually build a small data science team.

Requirements

• BS/MS with 10+ years of industry experience or PhD with 8+ years in a quantitative field.
• 8+ years of experience in statistical modeling and ML for autonomous systems.
• 5+ years of experience in Python, R, SQL, and statistical analysis.
• Proven ability to lead high-impact technical projects in ambiguous environments.
• Strong track record of influencing senior leadership and cross-functional teams.
• Must be based in or able to work in Mountain View, California.

Nice to have

• Experience applying ML techniques to large-scale datasets.
• 6+ years leading data science initiatives and building functions from scratch.
• Deep expertise in experimental design, sampling, and causal inference.
• Experience mentoring other Data Scientists.
