Staff+ Software Engineer (AI)

Location: United States; remote-friendly with at least 25% in-office attendance required. Offices are located in San Francisco, New York City, and Washington, DC. The role requires verification of U.S. citizenship because of citizenship-based legal restrictions.

Annual salary: $405,000–$485,000 USD

What you will do

• Build and scale Claude products for highly regulated government environments.
• Architect and ship deployments meeting public-sector compliance and security requirements, from FedRAMP to classified networks.
• Develop AI applications tailored to policy research, benefits administration, intelligence analysis, and other government workflows.
• Design scalable systems for deployment, user management, and administrative controls in constrained environments.
• Partner with research, safeguards, sales, legal, policy, and government customers to define technical and product roadmaps.
• Create technical direction and improve Claude for Government use cases.

Requirements

• Experience building AI products and understanding their capabilities and limitations.
• Strong track record of shipping enterprise- or government-grade products.
• Excellent cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Full-stack or backend software engineering experience; 8+ years is preferred.
• U.S. citizenship must be verified due to applicable legal restrictions.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education, training, and experience in a relevant field.

• Startup experience, especially scaling products from zero to one.
• Experience deploying software on government networks.
• Experience partnering with sales, customer success, and professional services teams.
• Active federal security clearance at Secret level or above.
