What you will do
- Recruit, develop, and lead a growing engineering organization in San Diego, managing both managers and individual contributors.
- Establish foundations for a new engineering group, including team structure, delivery rhythms, and engineering standards.
- Guide architecture and system design decisions for scalable, secure, and maintainable platforms in partnership with technical leaders.
- Collaborate with product management, design, and other engineering teams to align priorities and deliver business value.
- Foster strong cross-region alignment and operating rhythms with global teams in Sydney and Halifax.
- Promote modern engineering practices, including the thoughtful adoption of AI-assisted development approaches.
Requirements
- Significant experience leading software engineering teams that build and operate production systems.
- Proven track record of building and scaling teams effectively during periods of organizational growth.
- Strong technical judgment in distributed systems, APIs, cloud platforms, and modern software practices.
- Experience coaching, mentoring, and developing technical talent.
- Ability to lead effectively in a global organization with distributed teams across different time zones.
- Must be based in San Diego, CA.
Nice to have
- Experience leading teams that build customer-facing or enterprise SaaS platforms.
- Experience in healthcare, medtech, or other highly regulated industries.
- Familiarity with privacy-focused and regulatory-aware software development practices.
