Principal Software Engineer (C++)

What you will do

• Maintain and strategically modernize high-throughput payment processing systems handling real-time financial transactions.
• Drive platform migrations, specifically moving a core Windows C++ authorization gateway to Linux via Clang and Bazel.
• Develop robust payment integrations with third-party gateways such as Adyen, Braintree, and Chase Paymentech.
• Decompose legacy IPC frameworks into gRPC services to enable component reuse across the payments ecosystem.
• Implement security-critical features involving encryption and ensure strict PCI-DSS compliance.
• Optimize transaction processing pipelines to minimize latency and improve purchase completion rates.

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional C++ development experience in production environments.
• Strong mastery of systems programming, including memory management, concurrency, and performance optimization.
• Experience working with and incrementally modernizing legacy codebases older than 10 years.
• Must be based in the United States (Florida, Arizona, or North Carolina mentioned).
• Proficiency with Bazel build systems and Linux/Unix environments.
• Deep knowledge of security best practices and financial industry standards.

Nice to have

• Experience with or a genuine interest in learning Rust.
• Experience with Kafka or other event streaming platforms.
• Proficiency with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude, Codex) with mature judgment.
• Hands-on experience with OpenSSL and cryptographic libraries.
