Principal Software Engineer, Payments (C++)

What you will do

• Maintain and strategically modernize high-throughput C++ payment processing systems handling real-time financial transactions.
• Migrate the core Windows C++ authorization gateway to Linux using Clang and Bazel.
• Build and maintain integrations with third-party payment gateways and onboard new payment methods.
• Decompose legacy IPC frameworks into reusable gRPC services and evolve the broader payments architecture.
• Implement encryption, PCI-DSS controls, security-critical testing, performance improvements, and fuzz testing.
• Debug production issues and participate in the on-call rotation for payment systems.

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional C++ development experience in production environments.
• Strong systems programming knowledge, including memory management, concurrency, undefined behavior, cross-compilation, and performance optimization.
• Experience with legacy codebases, platform migrations, Linux/Unix, Bazel, profiling, shared memory, IPC, or low-level concurrency primitives.
• Experience with payment processing, payment gateway integrations, PCI-DSS compliance, cryptographic libraries, and secure handling of sensitive data.
• Knowledge of HTTP/HTTPS, RESTful APIs, gRPC or service decomposition, and Kafka or another event-streaming platform.
• Proficiency with AI-assisted development, code review, and static analysis tools, with human verification and security awareness.

Nice to have

• Experience with or strong interest in Rust.
• Experience integrating gateways such as Chase Paymentech, Braintree, Adyen, or similar providers.
