Principal Software Engineer (Gaming)

Location: San Mateo, California, United States; hybrid office presence required Tuesday through Thursday, with optional presence on Monday and Friday

What you will do

• Lead high-impact, highly visible projects for the Roblox Economy Platform.
• Scale purchasing, pricing, payout, and monetization systems that process billions of transactions.
• Define engineering vision and technical direction for scalable backend solutions.
• Develop systems that help creators optimize their revenue on Roblox.
• Collaborate with product managers, data scientists, designers, and other organizations on requirements and roadmaps.
• Help recruit future engineering talent.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience developing and supporting highly available, large-scale backend systems in production.
• 3+ years of experience leading large projects with five or more engineers.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a similar technical field.
• Extensive experience with backend distributed systems and the ability to work independently across multiple projects.
• For US-based roles, certain US visa categories may not be eligible, and future H-1B sponsorship may not be supported.

Nice to have

• Experience with consumer-facing products.
• Experience in monetization platforms, fintech, or the gaming industry.
