Staff Embedded Software Engineer (IoT)

Staff Embedded Software Engineer (IoT): Optimizing wireless communication systems for home security devices with an accent on performance, resilience, and power efficiency. Focus on debugging the full networking stack from PHY/MAC to application layer and implementing low-power wireless protocols.

Location: Hybrid (Boston, MA). Expectation to work from the office two core days per week (typically Tuesday and Wednesday).

What you will do

• Diagnose and resolve complex network connectivity, throughput, and reliability issues across the full stack from PHY/MAC to the application layer.
• Implement and optimize low-power wireless protocols including 802.11, HaLow, and Thread, as well as TCP/IP.
• Conduct in-depth performance analysis to identify bottlenecks and propose solutions for buffer management, concurrency, and power saving.
• Perform detailed root cause analysis of intermittent networking issues using advanced debugging tools.
• Collaborate with hardware engineers on RF performance and drivers, and with software teams for seamless integration.
• Define and develop comprehensive test plans for QA and automation teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• 10+ years of experience in embedded firmware development with a strong focus on wireless networking.
• Expert-level proficiency in C/C++ for embedded systems.
• Deep understanding of the TCP/IP networking stack (Layers 2-7), including Ethernet, IP, TCP, UDP, DNS, and DHCP.
• Extensive experience with WiFi (802.11) protocols, MAC layer operations, roaming, and power saving modes.
• Hands-on experience with FreeRTOS, Linux, and ARM Cortex-M/R microcontrollers.

Nice to have

• Experience with Matter/Thread networking.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS IoT and their connectivity requirements.
