Principal Software Engineer (Automotive): Designing and developing automotive infotainment application software with an accent on HMI, scalability, and reliability. Location: Must be based in the US. Hybrid: if living within 50 miles of Austin, Detroit, Warren, Milford, or Mountain View, attendance in office is required at least 3 times a week.

Salary: $197,000 – $358,500

What you will do

• Lead the design, development, and testing of automotive infotainment HMI applications using Kotlin, C++, and Rust.
• Define and deliver architectural solutions to ensure highly maintainable, reliable, and scalable software.
• Manage strategic partnerships with engineering, product planning, marketing, and manufacturing teams.
• Mentor and coach employees while leading global, geographically dispersed technology teams.
• Drive agile software development practices to improve speed, quality, and safety.
• Oversee supplier partner selection and conduct regular reviews of product capability and quality.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software/Computer Engineering, Electronics, or equivalent experience.
• 10+ years of experience leading and developing Infotainment HMI Applications.
• Proven experience leading global, cross-functional teams within a product-driven organization.
• Expertise in large-scale Agile delivery, API development, and cloud-based applications.
• Strong troubleshooting skills for complex ecosystems with multiple service providers.
• Demonstrated expertise managing teams that deploy modern design patterns and reusable code in automotive environments.

Nice to have

• 15+ years of experience with embedded software using C++, Rust, and RTOS.
• Leadership experience with ASIL A-D safety compliance.
• Experience developing and testing automotive infotainment applications for radios and instrument panel clusters.
• Working knowledge of embedded software development toolsets (IDEs, Jira, Git).
• Knowledge of GM Vehicle Development Process.
