Principal Software Engineer (Automotive Infotainment)

Location: Remote, with required onsite attendance at least three times a week for candidates within a 50-mile radius of Austin, Detroit, Warren, Milford, or Mountain View. This role is categorized as hybrid. No relocation benefits are provided; relocation costs are the candidate's responsibility.

Salary: $197,000–$358,500 per year, plus incentive bonus potential.

What you will do

• Design, develop, test, and deliver automotive infotainment application software using Kotlin, C++, Rust, and related technologies.
• Define and approve software architecture strategies for maintainable, reliable, scalable, extensible, usable, and secure infotainment systems.
• Lead cross-functional delivery with design, product, systems, safety, program, manufacturing, vehicle development, and supplier teams.
• Guide architecture, feature requirements, design, code, and test case reviews to ensure high-quality, on-time releases.
• Lead multiple technology teams, manage resources and budgets, and execute strategic plans for technology delivery.
• Mentor, coach, hire, develop, and recognize engineering talent across geographically distributed teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Software, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent work experience.
• 10+ years of experience leading and developing infotainment HMI applications or equivalent.
• Experience leading global teams and delivering large Agile programs involving technology, API development and integrations, and cloud-based applications.
• Demonstrated expertise managing teams that deploy modern design patterns and scalable, reusable code in automotive environments.
• Strong troubleshooting, communication, storytelling, collaboration, decision-making, and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to meet the role's hybrid attendance requirement in the specified U.S. locations; relocation benefits are not available.

Nice to have

• 15+ years of experience leading engineering teams developing embedded software with C, C++, and RTOS.
• Experience developing infotainment applications for radios and instrument panel clusters.
• Experience with automotive embedded systems, embedded target deployments, and ASIL A–D safety compliance.
• Experience leading multiple autonomous engineering teams and geographically dispersed global teams.
• Knowledge of embedded development tools such as IDEs, Jira, and the Git ecosystem, plus GM Vehicle Development Process knowledge.
