Thermal Systems Engineer

TL;DR

Thermal Systems Engineer (Electrification): Apply GM’s electrification technology to innovative eCommerce and Non-Automotive projects on land, sea or air with an accent on thermal management of energy storage and conversion systems. Focus on analyzing solutions for thermal capability, developing specifications for batteries, power electronics, and microgrids, and collaborating on efficient, safe designs.

Location: Hybrid in Warren, Michigan (report to office at least 3 times a week). GM does not provide immigration sponsorship; must be authorized to work in the US. Travel required up to 25%.

What you will do

• Work with customers across industries to understand needs and develop electrification solutions.
• Analyze thermal management for energy storage, electrical systems, and unique applications.
• Develop specifications for system, component, and sub-component levels including performance, safety, and compliance.
• Support strategy for efficient energy storage, power electronics, controls, and thermal systems.
• Collaborate with partners to evaluate and curate technologies for reliable product designs.
• Work cross-functionally in teams to optimize solutions for customers and programs.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical, chemical, mechanical, or relevant engineering field
• 2+ years of product development experience in thermal management of high voltage batteries and/or electrical systems
• High interpersonal skills for group collaboration
• Agility in complex, evolving environments with innovation mindset
• Proficient oral and written communication
• Team player attitude
• Willing to travel 10-15%

Nice to have

• Master’s in engineering or business administration
• Familiarity with multi-physics modeling and CAE techniques
