Design Engineer (Heavy Machinery)

TL;DR

Design Engineer (Heavy Machinery): Design and analysis of components for hydraulic mining shovels, electric rope shovels, and dragline buckets with an accent on fatigue analysis, manufacturability, and supplier collaboration. Focus on new product introduction, continuous product improvement, and advanced product quality planning to achieve zero defects while balancing cost, weight, and schedule.

Location: Onsite in Tucson, Arizona, United States five days a week. Relocation assistance available. Visa sponsorship not available. Up to 10% travel.

What you will do

• Provide design enhancements for current and legacy loading tools products including CPI, NSI, and maintenance.
• Create design concepts balancing functional needs, cost, weight, quality, and manufacturability.
• Perform fatigue analysis on design concepts using FEA software.
• Support product validation including field trials and lead APQP activities.
• Collaborate with suppliers, manufacturing, engineering partners, and product groups.

Requirements

• Proficiency in Creo or SolidWorks for 3D modeling, BOM management, and design reviews.
• Experience with FEA tools like ANSYS, Abaqus, or Creo Simulate for structural analysis.
• Knowledge of GD&T, DFMEA, DFMA, and manufacturing processes (welding, casting, machining).
• Strong communication for cross-functional collaboration with global teams using PLM like Teamcenter or Windchill.
• Ability to interpret engineering standards and conduct tolerance stack-ups.

Nice to have

• Tracked products or mining industry knowledge.
• Experience with Creo Parametric and Teamcenter PLM/PDM.
• Prior heavy structures design, NPI/CPI programs, or component-level FEA.
