What you will do

• Recruit, hire, and mentor a high-performing group of backend and ML engineers focusing on search infrastructure and applied AI.
• Own the end-to-end roadmap for Search and ML engineering backend, including POI, LPR, and platform services.
• Drive the production rollout of AI-powered search, LLM migrations, and VLM experimentation.
• Oversee the evolution of the vector search stack to improve recall, latency, and cost at fleet scale.
• Manage a portfolio of production services including submission endpoints, inference pipelines, and APIs.
• Establish reliability metrics, SLOs, and lead incident response and post-mortem processes.

Requirements

• 7+ years of software engineering experience, with 2+ years managing backend or ML engineering teams.
• Track record of leading 5+ engineers running production services at meaningful scale.
• 4+ years of experience in information retrieval, vector search, computer vision, or large-scale recommendation systems.
• 2+ years of experience productionizing modern LLMs, VLMs, or agentic systems.
• Deep proficiency in Python and Go/Java/C++, distributed systems (gRPC, Kafka), and AWS.
• Must be based in San Mateo, CA.

Nice to have

• Experience integrating foundation models via open-source GPU inference stacks.
• Familiarity with face recognition, person re-identification, or LPR pipelines.
• Background in physical security, video surveillance, or IoT domains.
• CI/CD experience for ML/search services.
