Staff Software Engineer, Backend (Trust and Safety)

Location: Remote within the United States

Salary: $230,000–$290,000 per year in CA, WA, NY, NJ, and CT; $204,000–$264,000 per year in other U.S. states.

What you will do

• Set technical strategy for the Trust and Safety Foundations team on a year-long horizon.
• Lead complex, business-critical initiatives from technical planning through execution.
• Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics to manage technical sustainability, risks, and trade-offs.
• Own system operations and availability, including monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing, alerting, and on-call support.
• Define and promote code review, system design, and engineering quality standards.
• Provide feedback and guidance to help engineers grow.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale.
• Strong experience with Python or Kotlin and highly available distributed systems.
• Experience with AWS, MySQL, Spark, and Kubernetes.
• Experience defining technical and execution plans for major features, system components, or deprecations.
• Strong technical judgment, communication skills, and the ability to work through ambiguity across system architecture and implementation details.
• Equivalent practical experience or a bachelor's degree in a related field.
