Senior Mechanical Engineer (Robotics)

Location: Fully on-site from the NYC office, or based in the greater Boston area with the ability to travel to NYC regularly; supplier and contract manufacturer travel may include international travel.

Salary: $170,000–$210,000 annually, plus discretionary annual bonus and equity grant.

What you will do

• Own mechanical subsystems from concept through design, analysis, prototyping, validation, production release, and field support.
• Analyze and test designs using FEA, statics, dynamics, kinematics, strength-of-materials methods, and tolerance analysis.
• Build, instrument, characterize, and test prototypes, using test data and physics to guide design decisions.
• Design for manufacturability, reliability, and cost across injection molding, sheet metal, weldments, CNC machining, finishes, and coating processes.
• Partner with the supply chain team, contract manufacturer, and suppliers on fixtures, assembly processes, NPI builds, and production documentation.
• Collaborate with Electrical, Firmware, Controls, Product, and Operations teams while resolving manufacturing and field issues through root-cause analysis.

Requirements

• BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience, with 5+ years of hands-on mechanical design engineering experience on large-scale electromechanical devices.
• Experience owning mechanical subsystems through design, implementation, debugging, verification, qualification, and transfer to manufacturing.
• Strong SolidWorks skills and quantitative ability in statics, dynamics, kinematics, stress analysis, FEA, and tolerance analysis.
• Hands-on experience prototyping and testing designs in laboratory and factory-floor environments.
• Knowledge of component selection, manufacturing processes, design for reliability, and design for manufacturability.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work with cross-disciplinary teams, suppliers, and geographically distributed partners.

Nice to have

• High-volume consumer electronics product development experience.
• Familiarity with design of experiments and statistical methods.
