TL;DR

2nd Shift Quality Engineer (Automotive): Providing on-shift quality engineering support for Orion Assembly and VAA-supplied modules with an accent on containment, root cause analysis, and ensuring compliance with GM specifications. Focus on reducing defects, managing PFMEAs/PCPs, and driving cross-functional resolution of plant and supplier quality issues.

Location: Onsite at Orion Assembly in Orion, Michigan (5 days per week)

What you will do

  • Lead on-shift containment and initial root cause analysis for plant and customer-driven quality issues.
  • Manage plant quality metrics including DRR, GCA, and SPPS to reduce defects, escapes, and rework.
  • Act as the primary quality liaison for VAA modules, ensuring conformity to SOR Operations Quality requirements.
  • Maintain and improve PFMEAs, Process Control Plans, and torque strategies for assigned operations.
  • Coordinate with Manufacturing, Engineering, and Supplier Quality to resolve emerging issues and drive durable corrective actions.
  • Support warranty reduction initiatives using field data and plant metrics.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing, quality, or engineering.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality, or a related technical field.
  • Proficiency in PFMEA, PCP, PPAP, SPC, and structured problem solving (5-Why, Fishbone).
  • General knowledge of print reading and GD&T interpretation.
  • Must be authorized to work in the US; no immigration sponsorship provided.
  • Ability to work 2nd shift (2:30 pm – 11:00 pm).

Nice to have

  • Quality Engineering experience within an automotive assembly environment.
  • Experience with chassis systems, torque management, or functional testing.
  • ISO/IATF audit preparation and response experience.
  • Red X or DFSS training/certification.
