Tooling and Gage Engineer

TL;DR

Tooling and Gage Engineer (Manufacturing): Support tool approvals, diagnose tooling issues, and oversee tool commodity management in a production plant with an accent on troubleshooting equipment, implementing corrective solutions, and process improvements. Focus on analyzing data for cost reductions, financial forecasting, and directing manufacturing processes for gear and aluminum machining.

Location: Onsite full-time at Toledo, Ohio plant. Must be willing to work weekends. No immigration sponsorship (H-1B, TN, STEM OPT, etc.) now or in the future. This position may offer relocation assistance.

What you will do

• Support project tool approvals and continuous improvement projects.
• Approve cutting tools, process documentation, and diagnose emergent tooling issues.
• Oversee Tool Commodity Management, Maximo inventory, financial forecasting, and engineering sufficiency plans.
• Coach 3rd party suppliers, manage safety contracts, and ensure adherence to GM standards.
• Design, analyze, and improve manufacturing processes and equipment.
• Lead cross-functional teams, provide direction to technical employees, and monitor expenditures.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Demonstrated high level of analytical ability with structured problem-solving (e.g., RedX, Design for Six Sigma).
• Work in team environment to understand products, processes, and failure modes.
• Manage multiple complex projects with autonomy and accountability.
• Demonstrate initiative to improve output and help others.
• Experience troubleshooting production equipment.
• Strong technical knowledge in process engineering and GMS principles.

Nice to have

• Experience with gear and aluminum machining.
• Experience with machine tool design and materials.
