TL;DR
Installation Engineer (General Assembly): Lead in-plant project management and technical execution of industrial tooling, equipment, and conveyance system installations with an accent on safe, compliant, high-quality installations meeting manufacturing standards, timing, and cost objectives. Focus on generating technical solutions, overseeing suppliers and union trades, power-on debug, validation, cross-functional coordination, and continuous process improvements.
Location: Onsite at Global Technical Center in Warren, Michigan. Expected to report full-time to specific location. Travel 50%+ required on frequent basis. No immigration sponsorship (H1-B, OPT, etc.).

What you will do
- Plan, manage, and execute installation activities for tooling, equipment cells, and conveyance systems in General Assembly.
- Develop Statements of Requirements, scopes of work, construction requirements, and engineering changes ensuring compliance with GM standards and safety codes.
- Provide technical direction to suppliers, oversee union trades, lead power-on, debug, and validation activities.
- Coordinate with ME Centers, plant personnel, suppliers, Controls, IE, Layout, Material, and GM Centers on execution, cost-reduction, and improvements.
- Develop and track project schedules, costs, manage finances, process payments, and report status to stakeholders.
- Maintain documentation, communicate risks and updates, stay current on technologies, and implement process improvements.
Requirements
- 3+ years experience with conveyor technologies and installation (preferred).
- 1+ years experience integrating tooling or equipment cells (preferred).
- Technical experience in industrial construction, project management, or equipment/tooling installation.
- Working knowledge of process engineering: plant layouts, construction codes, installation methods, manufacturing requirements.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Project, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, AutoCAD or similar.
- Understanding of mechanical/electrical systems, controls/automation, robotic integration; knowledge of manufacturing domains (Press, Body Shop, GA, Paint, Propulsion).
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Construction/Safety Management, or equivalent.
Nice to have
- Journeyman’s Card with superintendent-level experience.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills across functions, suppliers, plant leadership.
- Experience in union construction environments supervising trades.
- High analytical and problem-solving skills for complex challenges.
