What you will do

• Lead, coach, and develop a team of 6 engineers spanning streaming, data lakehouse, and platform infrastructure.
• Own quarterly planning and sprint-level execution, translating OKRs into clear milestones and timelines.
• Champion engineering best practices, including design reviews, ADRs, and automated testing.
• Drive AI adoption across engineering workflows to enhance productivity, code quality, and debugging practices.
• Manage on-call rotations and incident response processes to ensure stability without consuming team capacity.
• Hire exceptional talent with a focus on diversity and raising the technical bar of the organization.

Requirements

• Experience managing 5–10 engineers building data infrastructure, data platforms, or backend systems at scale.
• Strong software or data engineering background with the ability to review Terraform plans and streaming architectures.
• Proven track record of coaching engineers toward promotion and maintaining high team retention.
• Ability to communicate technical decisions to executive leadership and write concise incident summaries.
• Must be based in Ontario, Canada.
• Genuine curiosity about cryptocurrency and blockchain technology.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of Spark, Databricks, Kafka, Delta Lake, or Iceberg.
• Experience with cloud cost optimization and FinOps practices.
• Background in blockchain, fintech, or other data-intensive domains.
• Hands-on experience with AI coding assistants such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or Cursor.
