TL;DR

Policy Director (Education Advocacy): Lead policy development and legislative engagement for Connecticut charter schools with an accent on strategy, bill drafting, coalition alignment, and stakeholder management. Focus on shaping legislative agendas, tracking bills, preparing testimony, and driving measurable advocacy wins in high-stakes political environments.

Location: Connecticut/hybrid, based in Connecticut with weekly in-person team time in Danbury, regular in-state travel, occasional out-of-state travel

Salary: $100,000–$140,000 annually

What you will do

  • Lead policy agenda development, draft bill language, amendments, policy briefs, and build annual advocacy plans
  • Manage legislative engagement, track bills and hearings, prepare testimony and briefing materials
  • Build relationships with policymakers, agencies, charter leaders, and coalitions; map bipartisan support
  • Produce research, data summaries, issue briefs, and narrative materials for advocacy
  • Manage data systems, CRM tools, legislative dashboards, and operational accountability for policy execution

Requirements

  • 7-10+ years in public policy, legislative advocacy, or government affairs with track record of advancing legislation
  • Deep knowledge of Connecticut’s legislative process and education policy; experience drafting bills and testimony
  • Strong policy writing, communication, political judgment, and project management skills
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in public policy, education, law preferred
  • Commitment to educational equity and ability to thrive in fast-paced, political environments
