Principal Engineer, Power Electronics

Location: Onsite in Richardson, Texas, USA; must be willing to work in the Richardson office. Up to 10% domestic and international travel required.

Salary: $125,250–$183,700 annually, with potential additional compensation depending on the position.

What you will do

• Architect, design, implement, and test high-power audio amplifiers and power supplies.
• Design power electronics hardware for amplifier systems sold under the Crown and JBL brands.
• Select components, perform circuit simulations, create schematics, and complete PCB layout and routing.
• Lead and participate in technical design reviews and advise on product design decisions.
• Ensure products meet customer and internal requirements, specifications, cost targets, and global safety standards.
• Conduct research and development, release controlled documentation, and support prototype testing and manufacturing.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field with 12 years of industry experience; alternatively, a master’s degree with 8 years or a PhD with 4 years of power electronics analysis and design experience.
• Expertise in power electronics, power supplies, power converter applications, and converter topologies including AC/DC, DC/DC, PFC, resonant, quasi-resonant, flyback, full-bridge, half-bridge, forward, buck, and boost converters.
• Experience with control systems design, ECAD tools such as Xpedition or Altium, PCB layout practices, and circuit simulation tools such as Simplis or LTspice.
• Knowledge of global safety and regulatory requirements, including CSA and UL, and design techniques for EMC compliance.
• Willingness to work onsite in Richardson, Texas, and travel up to 10% domestically and internationally.
• Successful completion of a background investigation and drug screen as a condition of employment.

Nice to have

• Professional or consumer audio/video experience and knowledge of professional audio systems.
• PWM Class D switching amplifier design, including feedback, power-stage simulation, and protection schemes.
• Thermal design for power semiconductors, transformer and magnetic design, and mixed-signal analog/digital system design.
• Experience with wide-bandgap semiconductor technologies such as GaN and SiC.
