TL;DR

SW Project Engineer (Telematics): Lead development of embedded telematics software for connected vehicles with an accent on customer requirements translation, integration, and full lifecycle management. Focus on technical leadership, DFMEA reviews, global team coordination, and evolving into Functional Owner role.

Location: Hybrid in Ariake - Tokyo or Nagoya - Aichi, Japan. Be willing to travel up to 30%, domestic only or domestic and international. Fluent in Japanese and business-level English required.

What you will do

  • Act as primary technical interface for customers (JOEMs), representing the software domain team.
  • Lead software development and integration for new telematics product projects.
  • Translate customer and system requirements into detailed technical specifications with full traceability.
  • Create and present requirement proposals to stakeholders and lead DFMEA/DRBFM reviews.
  • Estimate efforts, track V-Model lifecycle, and coordinate with project leaders for execution.
  • Demonstrate ownership to evolve into Functional Owner, driving end-to-end software domains.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • 3+ years in embedded software development (C/C++).
  • 3+ years leading global development teams.
  • Strong knowledge of IPC, threading, socket programming.
  • Proficiency in embedded OS and debugging tools (e.g., GDB).
  • Fluent in Japanese and business-level English.

Nice to have

  • Experience in automotive software development.
  • Understanding of TCP/IP and secure coding practices.
  • Familiarity with UML, Agile (SCRUM, SAFe), Automotive SPICE (SWE.2).
  • Knowledge of ISO 24089, ISO 26262, ISO 21434.
