Senior Backend Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid work from the Berlin HQ, London office, or Iași hub. Dublin is also listed as a company location. Relocation assistance is not provided.

What you will do

• Build and operate Python backend services on AWS, including Lambda, DynamoDB, Aurora, and event-driven pipelines.
• Develop data infrastructure for the feature computation platform and handle real production traffic.
• Improve latency, reliability, scalability, and system performance.
• Own systems end to end across architecture, implementation, deployment, monitoring, and incident response.
• Make architectural decisions and define technical approaches for complex backend systems.
• Raise engineering standards through code reviews, mentoring, tooling improvements, and collaboration with Product and Design.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of professional software engineering experience, including 2+ years leading complex projects in a senior capacity.
• Deep expertise in Python and backend development on cloud platforms, especially AWS.
• Strong system design skills and the ability to make and defend architectural trade-offs.
• Depth in at least one area: data pipelines and storage, event-driven architectures, caching and performance, or serverless systems.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to work in a hybrid model from Berlin, London, or Iași.

Nice to have

• Experience with Apache Iceberg, AWS Athena, AWS Glue, or Apache Spark.
• Experience with streaming and real-time data pipelines, including Kinesis.
• Experience with multi-level caching using Redis, DynamoDB, or in-memory storage.
• Experience operating serverless systems at scale with Lambda, SAM, or CloudFormation.
