TL;DR

Automation Engineer (Automotive): Maintaining and improving automation systems in the Body Shop with an accent on vision-guided applications and robot programming. Focus on troubleshooting, increasing MCBF, and integrating Fanuc robots and machine vision hardware.

Location: Onsite in Flint, Michigan. No immigration sponsorship provided. No relocation benefits available.

What you will do

  • Support and optimize Body Shop automation systems, including vision-guided applications utilizing Keyence, Photoneo, and Matrox.
  • Troubleshoot and improve throughput, increasing MCBF and reducing MTTR.
  • Lead end-to-end projects: define scope, manage risks, and drive issues to closure.
  • Train and support skilled trades on new automation and vision technologies.
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement sustainable corrective actions.
  • Manage interfaces between automation hardware, software, and PLC/plant floor systems.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience in robot programming and troubleshooting (e.g., Spot Welding, Arc Welding, Dispensing).
  • Proficiency in Fanuc robot programming, including setup, recovery, and optimization.
  • Knowledge of machine vision hardware and software, specifically Matrox, Keyence, and Photoneo.
  • Ability to work rotating/flexible shifts (1st, 2nd, or 3rd), including overtime and weekends.
  • Must be authorized to work in the US without current or future immigration sponsorship.
  • Must be able to work onsite in Flint, Michigan, as no relocation assistance is provided.

Nice to have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience with GM Global Common Controls Architecture and Global Standards.
  • Familiarity with robot simulation software and studies.
  • Prior experience leading controls scope for major launches or large automation projects.
