Location: Hybrid (office twice a week) in Munich or Cologne (Germany) or London (UK)

What you will do
- Drive achievement and evaluation of baseline translation quality for market leadership.
- Shape and prioritize research agenda, balancing product outcomes with long-term initiatives.
- Define team goals, roadmap, and metrics with stakeholders in tech, product, sales, and customer success.
- Own estimation models to determine when translations need human review.
- Inspire, recruit, develop team, build 1:1 relationships, and foster candid feedback culture.
- Make autonomous decisions to push results and define team direction.
Requirements
- PhD (preferred) in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or comparable, or strong ML research background.
- Strong research experience, ideally in language research, for technical discussions.
- Hands-on in software development (data science/ML/systems), technical/people leadership, Deep Learning.
- Track record leading research teams in high-growth environments; open to newer leaders motivated by people management.
- Solution-oriented, navigates ambiguity, excellent communication for cross-team collaboration.
- High level of English proficiency (German/other languages advantage).

- Knowledge of German or other languages.
