What you will do
- Lead discretionary permitting and environmental survey activities for a utility-scale renewable energy pipeline to ensure agency approvals.
- Develop strategies for permit processes and environmental compliance, including budget and schedule management.
- Manage day-to-day interactions with local, state, and federal government authorities and planning boards.
- Oversee a network of external consultants for biological and cultural surveys and the preparation of diligence documents.
- Conduct due diligence on project acquisition opportunities, evaluating permits, ESAs, and land use restrictions.
- Collaborate with internal engineering and real estate teams to optimize development schedules and reduce permitting risks.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in natural sciences, land use planning, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- At least 5 years of experience in the energy/utilities industry, with a strong preference for wind and solar project development.
- Proven expertise in acquiring land use permits (CUP, SUP, zoning amendments) and environmental approvals.
- Experience with federal processes including Section 106 NHPA, Section 7/10 Endangered Species Act, and BLM/Forest Service grants.
- Must be based in the US; the company will not sponsor non-immigrant visas (H-1B, TN, E-3, etc.).
- Ability and willingness to travel approximately 20% as required.
Nice to have
- Experience with NEPA and state processes such as CEQA, SEPA, and Section 1041 (Colorado).
- Knowledge of state licensing processes and the Migratory Bird Treaty Act (MBTA).
- Experience with Section 404 Nationwide Permit Program and Section 401 Water Quality Certifications.
- Understanding of environmental mitigation requirements and cost-effective implementation strategies.
